How to Convert PDF Pages to JPG or PNG
Converting a PDF page into an image file is useful when you need to drop a page into a slideshow, a website, or a social post where a PDF simply won't display the way an image will.
JPG vs. PNG for converted PDF pages
JPG is the better choice for pages with photos or complex color, since it compresses well and keeps file sizes small. PNG is the better choice for pages that are mostly text, diagrams, or line art, since PNG compression doesn't introduce the blurring artifacts JPG does around sharp edges and text.
Choosing the right resolution
A low resolution export is fine for viewing on screen, but will look pixelated if you try to print it or zoom in. If there's any chance the image will be printed or displayed large, export at a higher resolution setting even though it produces a bigger file.
Converting multi-page documents
If your PDF has multiple pages, most converters will let you choose between converting every page into a separate image file (often delivered as a zip) or converting just the specific pages you select. Decide which you need before starting, since re-running the conversion for a single missed page is an easy extra step to avoid.
What gets lost in the conversion
Once converted to an image, any selectable text, links, or form fields in the original PDF are gone; it's now just a picture. If you need the recipient to be able to search or copy text, keep the PDF and don't convert it, or provide both formats.
