How to Crop PDF Pages

Cropping a PDF page removes visible margins or unwanted content around the edges without deleting anything from the underlying page content, it just changes the visible boundary.

What cropping actually does

Most PDF crop tools don't delete content permanently, they adjust the page's visible boundary box while leaving the full original content technically still present underneath. This matters because it means cropping is usually reversible, unlike operations like removing pages entirely.

Cropping to remove wide margins

Documents scanned with a lot of excess white space around the edges are a common reason to crop, especially when the original was designed for a larger page size than the content actually needs. Cropping tightens the visible area to just the content, making it look more intentional when read on screen.

Cropping consistently across pages

If you're cropping a multi-page document, apply the same crop margins to every page rather than cropping page by page, unless individual pages genuinely need different amounts trimmed. Most tools let you set one crop boundary and apply it to the whole document at once.

Cropping vs. resizing

Cropping only removes visible edges, it doesn't change the underlying page dimensions the way resizing does. If your goal is actually to make the whole page a different size, like fitting A4 content onto Letter paper, you want a resize operation instead of a crop.
